Preclinical in vivo imaging is an emerging cutting-edge technology which has an impact on various biomedical research areas (oncology, cardiology, neurology, immunology, infectiology….). Numerous morphological, functional and molecular parameters could be assessed in a non-invasive and longitudinal manner reducing thus animal numbers and amounts of drug used, bringing to cost-effective study designs. Moreover, preclinical and clinical imaging share the same imaging modalities and biomarkers. Preclinical imaging is therefore a translational toolreducing both costs and timelines of drug development process by decreasing the gap between basic science and clinical proof of concept.
